Surface Prep / Painter:

The Surface Prep / Painter is responsible for cleaning and prepping steel surfaces and applying paint to various surfaces.

Duties and responsibilities

· Prepare steel girders, frames, etc. and other surfaces for painting by using various hand tools (Grinders, Wire Wheels, Needle Scaler, Scrappers, Sandpaper) to remove steel surface scale, rust, oil etc.

· Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools. (HVLP spray gun, brushes, rollers)

· Adhere to all health and safety precautions.

· Use personal protection equipment such as grinding shields, face respirators, coveralls, etc.

· Operate overhead cranes and fork trucks.

· Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Knowledge of industrial heavy equipment steel painting techniques.

· Must possess high attention to detail.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities

 

Working conditions

Work is normally performed in a factory setting near mechanical assembly and spray line. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Some condition requires works from an elevated position (i.e. on a ladder, on personnel lift)

 

Physical requirements

The physical requirements to safely perform the duties of this position include: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, crouching, good hand/eye coordination for material

handling, touching surfaces to assess quality, gripping vibrating and rotary tools, climbing up/down ladders, verbal communication, and listening to directions.
