Description

Job purpose

The Painter is responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces, completing touchups, and coordinating large painting projects.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
  • Prepare steel girders, frames, etc. and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
  • Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture.
  • Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools.
  • Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions.
  • Use personal protection equipment such as grinding shields, face respirators, coveralls, etc.
  • Operate overhead cranes and fork trucks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of industrial heavy equipment painting techniques.
  • Must possess high attention to detail.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities

Working conditions

Work is normally performed in a factory setting near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Frequently works from an elevated position (i.e. on a ladder, on top of cranes, etc.).

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
