Responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager include, but are not limited to:

• Direct and coordinate the daily operations of Purchasing with primary responsibility for the purchasing of all parts and services necessary for the efficient operation of the company.
• Negotiates all new pricing contracts with suppliers and reviews current suppliers based upon quality, delivery and price.
• Provides leadership to and management of departmental employees. Trains, develops and evaluates the performance of direct reports. 
• Serves as a proactive liaison with other departments and assists with all phases of material planning, pricing, quality and delivery. 
• Works directly with Engineering during the product design phase to maximize profitability utilizing best purchasing practices.  
• Proactively suggests innovative methods to meet scheduled cost reduction targets for the purchasing of all parts, supplies, materials and services. Negotiates with suppliers any necessary changes to existing orders. 
• Implements the strategic plans as outlined by the company as they relate to purchasing material and services. Assists in the development of a plan to achieve these objectives. 
• Provides guidance for development and review of materials requirement planning and the associated production schedule. 
• Assists with development and review of operational best practices to ensure sufficient inventory levels are available to support the production schedule. 
• Participates in cross-functional continuous improvement teams. 

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification from the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM) or equivalent preferred.
• 5-7 years of experience supervising purchasing operations in a manufacturing setting.
• A strong background in purchasing steel and related components.
• Candidate must be a good communicator, both verbal and written; ability to conduct interpersonal speaking and writing across all functions of the organization.
• Candidate must possess above average abilities in the areas of leadership, coaching and training/development.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required, specifically Excel.
• Motivated self-starter, proactive and able to manage multiple jobs with little guidance or direction.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Must be able to follow up with tasks and requests in a prompt manner.
