Plant Manager
Performs functions to provide leadership for manufacturing and materials functions in machining, weld, structures, assembly, maintenance & facilities, safety and traffic. Executes to monthly and yearly goals in the areas of cost, quality, safety, delivery and cash management. Leads and participates in continuous improvement initiatives of all facets of the business using lean techniques, as appropriate. Identifies and implements improvements in a method that motivates team members. Utilizes communication skills as they relate to employee relations and managing change.
Under general oversight:
• Supports the Whiting business plan and the company wide goals in the area of cost, quality, safety, delivery and cash management.
• Prepares and performs to annual departmental budgets.
• Serves as company leader for safety processes and programs.
• Participates in continuous improvement projects as they relate to manufacturing and Materials/Purchasing activities.
• Understanding and ability to apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing in terms of theory and application.
• Manages the human resource element of the position in terms of maintaining salary equity. Equitably manage the promotional paths for team members and the merit review system. Work actively to maintain morale within areas of responsibility.
• Responsible for oversight of property, plant and equipment. Author AR’s for the purpose of upgrading the aforementioned items, as required.
• Proactively manages manufacturing capacity and takes appropriate actions when capacity is constrained in order to fulfill customer demand patterns.
• Manages the Production Update meeting and process.
• Actively works on developing the skills of direct reports and their teams in terms of training and education. Manages succession planning.
• Supports the Whiting Quality System in terms of ISO, Appendix B program, CAR system and other quality system related items.
Reports to: Vice President of Operations
Responsible for: Equipment Assembly, Inventory Control, Machine Shop and Welding departments.
Uses: Microsoft Office (incl. Excel, Word), ERP (ManFact), CAD systems, blueprints and machine controls.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline required.
• Minimum ten (10) years experience in a heavy manufacturing environment working in a similar capacity required.
• General understanding of machinery and manufacturing systems (MRP/ERP).
• Candidate must have strong leadership skills and be a good communicator, both verbal and written.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (incl. Word, Excel, Access).
• Regular work in manufacturing areas; use of PPE (personal protective equipment) as required.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• APICS, Six Sigma Black Belt certifications required.
Performs other duties as assigned. Participates in Continuous Improvement efforts and 6S.
Follows safety rules and keeps work area in clean and orderly condition.
