Laboratory Technician
 
Performs a broad range of duties related to the day-to-day operations of an industrial chemical laboratory which runs various feasibility studies related to turning a liquid feed into a dry solid.  Duties include the preparation of media, supplies, materials and equipment; maintenance of equipment and facilities; storekeeping functions; and safe use of equipment and materials.
 
Under general direction of VP Technology:
         

♦ Performs test methods in an accurate and timely manner with minimal supervision.

♦ Makes appropriate entries into instrument logs, control charts, calibration records, databases, etc.

♦ Maintains chemical inventories, keeps records of supplies, materials and equipment.

♦ Disposes of chemicals according to safety guidelines.

♦ Performs routine and analytical work to prepare reagents, solutions, equipment and materials used in experiments.

♦ Performs laboratory tests on samples using specified methodology; monitors and analyzes processes.

♦ Safely and effectively operates, maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment.

♦ Cleans glassware and equipment.

♦ Provides data for environmental reports.

♦ Observes and follows safe laboratory procedures.

Requirements:
 

♦ High school diploma or equivalency.

♦ 2+ years experience with analytical chemistry laboratory equipment and procedures.

♦ Ability to work independently with a consistent exercise of discretion and sound judgement.

♦ Ability to occasionally work weekends or odd hours as required by specific projects.

♦ Willingness to work in close proximity to potentially harmful chemicals and equipment.

♦ Able to perform physical duties such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, climbing stairs and walking.
