Description

Job purpose

Performs functions for general repair and maintenance on the facility and the equipment used at Whiting.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Works with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, conventional and CNC machinery, overhead cranes, plumbing and light construction.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on assigned machines and equipment, including rooftop A/C units.
  • Makes emergency repairs as safely and quickly as possible so as to maximize machine and equipment availability to production.
  • Assists with the overhaul and installation of new equipment.
  • Rebuilds and fabricates parts.
  • Performs facility maintenance and maintains clean and safe work areas.
  • Exhibits problem solving and multi-tasking skills.
  • Perform welding as needed.
  • Perform electrical repairs.
  • Works in production areas when needs arise.
  • Operates a fork truck and all overhead cranes, including 1-2 Ton hoists.
  • Enters work order information through terminals in the shop.
  • Follows safety guidelines for safe operation of all equipment.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement Projects.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Minimum 2 – 5 years related experience required.
  • Experience in crane or heavy equipment manufacturing preferred.
  • Work in a factory setting; ability to stand 6-10 hours daily, ability to lift <50 lbs frequently. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within the organization on multiple levels.
  • Basic PC knowledge (ability to operate a keyboard and basic navigation between screens within an application).
  • Knowledge of 120 volt to 460 volts.

Working conditions

Work is normally performed in a factory setting near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Frequently works from an elevated position (i.e. on a ladder, on top of cranes, etc.).

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
