Description
Whiting Corporation, a world leader in the manufacture of overhead cranes and transportation lifting equipment, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Estimator/Bill Writer - Parts Department.
Performs functions to interface with Parts Representatives to clearly understand departmental needs and prepare estimates that meet those needs. Process "sold" made-to-order parts and clearly convey to the organization what needs to be provided.
Under general direction, performs the following functions:
- Reviews mechanical drawings and develops marked prints for quoting. Designs retrofits or upgrades of obsolete components.
- Works with Engineering Department to facilitate completion of initial design begun in the quoting stage.
- Works with Parts Representatives to develop cost estimates and establish pricing in accordance with department policies.
- Research Bills of Material (BOM's), drawings and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system closeouts for developing cost estimates and prices.
- Maintains standard and consistent pricing, updating as needed to maintain departmental margin objectives.
- Create Part Masters and Bills of Material in the ERP system for components as they are sold.
- Create jobs in the ERP system.
- Assist Parts Representatives in securing orders by considering and communicating the best ways to achieve customer delivery requirements.
- Work with individuals in the manufacturing shop to create estimates for rebuilds.
Job Requirements:
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent mechanical engineering experience required.
- Knowledge of shop manufacturing and routing practices required.
- Previous experience estimating mechanical parts and assemblies required.
- Ideal candidate must be able to work independently, multi-task, manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced ambitious environment.
- Candidate must be a good communicator, both verbal and written.
- Ability to read and understand machinery and structural drawings, familiarity with weld design, strong mathematical aptitude required.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Must be organized and attentive to detail.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Participates in Continuous Improvement and 6S.
- Follows safety rules and keeps work area in clean and orderly condition.
Uses: Microsoft Office (incl. Excel, Word), Man Fact, Epicor (ERP), electronic documentation readers (Adobe Acrobat, eCopy).
