There is an immediate opening for a Gear Cutting Operator on the first shift in our Machine Tool department.
The Gear Cutting Operator performs functions to cut external teeth and threads into flat gears and pinion shafts. Parts are used in machine assemblies and as separate parts orders and range in size from hand-held to those lifted with an overhead hoist.
Works from blueprints, work orders and instructions:
· Candidate will be trained to operate six machines, manual and semi-automatic machines such as hobbers for spur and helical teeth, machines that generate herringbone teeth and a thread-miller.
· Sets-up and runs several manual machines concurrently.
· Uses measurement devices such as calipers and micrometers.
· Reads and interprets dimensional requirements for parts from engineered drawings.
· Keeps track of cutter inventory, sends cutters outside for sharpening, grinds relief grooves.
· Troubleshoots own work.
· Operates a fork truck and all overhead cranes.
· Enters work order information into terminals in the shop.
· Performs operator maintenance on equipment (TPM).
· Follows safety guidelines for safe operation of all equipment.
· Participates in Continuous Improvement Projects.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalency required.
· Previous experience with setting up and running manual machines using precise measurements required.
· Ability to multi-task and work conscientiously under minimal supervision.
· Accurate use of shop math in measurements and parts setups and use of gearing charts.
· Experience in crane or heavy equipment manufacturing preferred.
· Work in a factory setting; ability to stand 6 -10 hours daily, ability to lift <50 lbs frequently. Some low climbing into machines is necessary. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
· Ability to communicate effectively within the organization on multiple levels.
· Basic PC knowledge (ability to operate a keyboard and basic navigation between screen within an application).
