Technical Developer - Whiting Passport


Performs functions to support the design and manufacture of technologies developed by Whiting Passport.  Supports both the pre-sale and post-sales efforts meeting the needs of applications, sales and product engineering functions.  Provides technical support liaison to other functional areas of the company and our customers as it relates to all applications of existing and new Whiting Passport technologies and products.

Under general direction:
  • Help with research, testing and development of new and existing Whiting Passport products and technologies.
  • Create electrical wiring, interconnection and control system drawings for use in application of Whiting Passport products and technologies
  • Lead special projects teams for developing new products,  and systems or testing existing products and technologies
  • Provide product application support for both Dealers and End Users.
  • Helps create and implement new systems at Whiting Passport to add value to our condition monitoring products and technologies.
  • Provides pre-sales support including technical assistance, component selection and pricing to dealers and sales personnel.
  • Assists with customer service and warrant issues.  Provides troubleshooting assistance to both internal and external customers.
  • Visit customer sites to support sales and or customers in the sales and applications process.
  • Provide in-house training, guidance and technical support to other team members 
  • Reports to management project status, including schedule, budget and issues that could impact the overall effort.
  • Supports overall company performance goals.

Reports to:  Passport Products Director

Uses: Microsoft Office (incl. Excel, Word), AutoCAD, (PLC) control system software by GE and Allen Bradley, in house MRP system software. 
Electrical meters and other tools to trouble-shoot electrical systems.

Job Requirements:
  • Degree in BSEE or BSET, BSME, BSMT required; 5 years of related job experience preferred, or a demonstrated ability to create.
  • Strong mathematical skills and electrical aptitude required.
  • Technical ability to create and interpret schematic and interconnection diagrams; use electrical meters and other common electrical tools.
  • Ability to understand and interpret the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related industry codes and specifications required, as well as guide others where interpretation is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and control system schematics provided by vendors and customers.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret customer supplied specifications as it relates to the equipment; provide guidance and advice as needed.
  • Must be a good communicator, both verbal and written; ability to conduct interpersonal speaking and writing across all functions of the organization.  Individual will interface with customers, service technicians and vendors on a routine basis.
  • Ability to travel as needed, on average less than 50% of work time.
  • Occasional work in a manufacturing environment to review and troubleshoot Passport Products and applications; use of PPE (personal protective equipment) as required at customer and Whiting manufacturing sites.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD required.
