Whiting Corporation, a world leader in the manufacture of overhead cranes, rail transportation and transportation lifting equipment, is seeking a Hydraulics Design Engineer.
The Hydraulics Design Engineer provides mechanical engineering services for our Rail Hydraulics Projects in a timely, accurate, and cost effective manner. Typically provides engineering and technical assistance to the Rail Hydraulics Group, our Engineering Department as well as vendors and customers, as needed.
Under general direction:
- Creation of customized hydraulic/mechanical designs and layouts
- Design validation including prototyping including field assessment.
- Development of design/component specifications and/or manufacturing drawings for internal/external suppliers
- Generation of Bill of Material(s)
- Co-ordinates and supports manufacturing as required.
- Co-ordinate (as well as participate) in the installation of equipment in the field with the client as required.
Reports to: Product Manager - Rail Hydraulics Group
- Begin to assist with planning, organizing, coordinating, prioritizing and monitoring client relations, contractors, and public involvement
- Demonstrate the ability to create, review, and redline documents independently
- Manage production engineering within scope
- Participate in and facilitate meetings with stakeholders and clients
- Assist with RFPs and interviews
- Begin to assist with contracts, scope of services and budgets
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
· Two years professional design experience in a rail preferred.
· Strong goal setting, planning and prioritizing skills.
· Proficient time management, technical communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to support operations, as required.
· Problem solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward the work at hand.
· Mechanical drawing skills required; ability to read and understand drawings; familiarity with rail designs.
· Strong mathematical abilities and a mechanical aptitude required.
· Ideal candidate must be a good communicator, both verbal and written.
· Strong knowledge (5 years +) of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Preference:
- Design experience in: rail projects, and/or rail passenger projects
- Rail construction, project, and a comprehension of rail operations oversight experience
- Experience with AutoCAD 2D or 3D
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual to work on average 20, but no more than 24 hours per week. The percentage of time spent in the field and office will vary.
Performs other duties as assigned; follows safety rules and keeps work area in clean and orderly condition.
Relocation will not be offered for this position.
