Job purpose
The Estimator, Bill Writer is responsible for developing and coordinating cost estimates on department projects for construction as required by customer requests.
Duties and responsibilities
- Review mechanical drawings and develop market prints for quoting.
- Work with Engineering Department to facilitate completion of initial design begun in the quoting stage.
- Work with Parts Representatives to develop cost estimates and establish pricing in accordance with department policies.
- Research Bills of Material (BOMs), drawings, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system closeouts for developing cost estimates and prices.
- Maintain standard and consistent pricing, updating as needed to maintain departmental margin objectives.
- Create Part Masters and Bills of Material in the ERP system for components as they are sold.
- Create job travelers in the ERP system.
- Assist Parts Representatives in securing orders by considering and communicating the best ways to achieve customer delivery requirements.
- Work closely with manufacturing shop personnel to create estimates for rebuilds.
- Assist with research to quote as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Minimum Associates Degree in Engineering or Business preferred or equivalent mechanical engineering experience required.
- Mechanical aptitude required.
- Knowledge of shop manufacturing and routing practices required.
- Previous experience estimating mechanical parts and assemblies required.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and understand machinery and structural drawings; familiarity with weld design; strong mathematical aptitude required.
- Effective oral and written communications skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.).
Working conditions
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Occasional work performed in a manufacturing environment in a technical support role. Ability to climb on heavy equipment that may be elevated 30-50 feet is required.
