Horizontal Bar Operator
Performs functions to machine parts to specified tolerances according to supplied drawing(s).
Works from blueprints, work orders and instructions:
- Primary responsibility to operate the Giddings & Lewis Horizontal Boring Bar.
- Set up and run bar to process weldments, plates, castings and similar work with a wide variety of dimensions.
- Will cross-train on other similar machinery as work load requires.
- Uses measurement devices such as micrometers to hold close tolerances.
- Reads and interprets engineering drawings in order to hold given dimensions.
- Uses basic shop math to calculate bolt circles, bevels, etc.
- Troubleshoots own work.
- Operates a fork truck and all overhead cranes.
- Enters work order information through terminals in the shop.
- Performs operator maintenance on equipment (TPM).
- Follows safety guidelines for safe operation of all equipment.
- Participates in Continuous Improvement Projects.
Reports to: Machining Supervisor
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Minimum 2 years related experience required.
- Experience and ability to use micrometers to measure tolerances to .0005.
- Experience in crane or heavy equipment manufacturing preferred.
- Work in a factory setting; ability to stand 6-10 hours daily, ability to lift <50lbs frequently. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Ability to communicate effectively within the organization on multiple levels.
- Basic PC knowledge (ability to operate a keyboard and basic navigation between screens within an application).
