Electrical Engineer
Performs functions to support the design and manufacture of material handling equipment supplied by Whiting Corporation as it relates to electrical and control systems. Supports both the presale and post sales efforts meeting the needs of applications, sales, and product engineering functions.
Under general direction:
- Designs control end electrical systems that meets the requirements for material handling equipment supplied by Whiting Corporation (over-head cranes as well as in-floor lift equipment)
- Create electrical wiring, interconnection and control system drawings
- Reviews and interprets customer, OEM, national-industrial (NEC, OSHA) and Whiting technical specifications and codes as they relate to electrical and control systems required for material handling equipment.
- Sizes and selects OEM components required for use on Whiting material handling equipment (including programmable logic controllers and variable frequency drives), works with outside vendors to obtain technical information, quotations and delivery information.
- Creates engineering bills of material for processing within the company ERP system.
- Provides pre-sales support including technical assistance, component selection, and pricing to application engineers and sales personnel.
- Assist with customer service and warranty issues. Provides troubleshooting assistance to both internal and external customers.
- Assist with the check-out and start-up of Whiting equipment, during the manufacture of the equipment as well as at customer sites.
- Provide PLC programming support. Develop ladder diagrams
- Supports overall company performance goals
Reports to: Designated product manager. May receive direction from Senior Electrical Engineers
Uses: Microsoft Office software (incl. Word and Excel), 2-D CAD software (AutoCAD or Draftsight) PLC control system software to support Allen Bradley and GE based PLC’s, company implemented ERP system software, electrical tools including meters to assist in the check-out and troubleshooting of electrical control systems.
Position Requirements:
- Degree in BSEE or BSET required; 2 years of related job experience preferred.
- Strong mathematical skills and electrical design aptitude required.
- Technical ability to read and understand PLC ladder diagrams; create and interpret schematic and interconnection diagrams; use electrical meters and other common electrical tools as required.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control system diagrams provided by external customers and vendors.
- Ability to read and understand customer supplied specifications, codes, industry and company standards as the apply to electrical system design to determine and define requirements as they relate to material handling equipment.
- Must be a good communicator, both verbal and written; ability to conduct interpersonal speaking and writing across all functions of the organization. Individual may work with customer and outside vendors.
- Ability to travel as needed, on average less than 30% of work time.
- Occasional work in a manufacturing environment to review and troubleshoot electrical control systems; use of PPE (personal protective equipment) as required at customer and Whiting manufacturing sites. Focus on working in a safe manner at all times.
- Strong knowledge and skill set working with MS Office software and 2-D CAD systems.
- Experience in programming PLC’s preferred.
Performs other duties as assigned. Participates in continuous improvement as well as research and development efforts. Follows all safety rules and procedures. Keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.
